The Kerala High Court on Wednesday refused to cancel the bail granted to Malayalam actor Dileep,who is an accused in the actress sexual assault case.
A single bench of Justice Sophy Thomas rejected the plea moved by the prosecution in 2022, challenging the order of the additional special sessions court, Ernakulam dismissing the state prosecution’s plea to cancel the bail granted to Dileep by the Kerala High Court in 2017. However, the court clarified that the observations made by the Sessions Judge in her order refusing to cancel the bail, shall not affect the appreciation of evidence in the main trial.
Dileep was arrested on July 10, 2017. The Kerala High Court granted him bail on 3 October, 2017.
The prosecution moved the High Court contenting that Dileep failed to follow the bail conditions and that he and his associates were indulging in all sorts of activities, including destruction of evidence and influencing prosecution witnesses.
A noted Malayalam actress was sexually assaulted in a moving car by a gang in Kochi on February 17,2017.The perpetrators also filmed the assault.
